Google: Using AI to host better conversations
Internet comments are flaming hot garbage everywhere but the New York Times thanks to an army of skilled moderators, who keep the conversation civil yet diverse, But human moderation is difficult to scale, and the NYT could only open comments on a tiny percentage of posted articles.
Enter machine learning, not to replace human moderators but to work alongside them. In this film we profiled the people who make the NYT comments section the unexpected haven it is - from the moderators to the commenters - and how Perspective, a free tool developed by Jigsaw and Google has enabled the conversation to expand across more articles on the NYT.
